Australia is a Great Place to Study

Going to one of the best Universities in the world for analytics, big data and management was important to Aman Agarwal.

So he applied to Carnegie Mellon University, ranked #24 University and #1 Information Technology Management in the world to undertake his post-graduate studies in Information Technology.

He was offered a place in the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) degree at CMU’s Australia campus.

“I was excited to be offered a place in the Masters degree at CMU in Australia”, said Aman.

“I had done some research on studying in Australia, so that was already on my radar.

“And the advantage is that the Australian-based MSIT course has the same trademark core subjects as the Pittsburgh-based program, and is taught by the same respected US and Australian faculty.

“The only difference is that I get to live in Australia while I study”, he said.

In August 2018 Aman enrolled in a Master of Science in Information Technology with the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (MSIT-BIDA) concentration. He is currently doing his second semester and expects to graduate in May 2020.

A graduate from Mumbai University with a Bachelor of Engineering, Aman has been working in coding and software development with Justdial in Mumbai for the past 2 years.

His desire to work in management and move into analytics prompted his global search for a graduate school.

The senior managers at Justdial encouraged him to look at Carnegie Mellon University because of the University’s reputation as a leader in analytics, business intelligence and big data. Aman was also impressed by the mix of business subjects coupled with projects and an industry-based internship.

“The comprehensive mix of technical and business subjects offered by Carnegie Mellon University got my attention”, said Aman.

“I knew that most people in senior management positions have a broad scope of understanding, not just strengths in one specific domain.

“The CMU Masters degree is a perfect match for me as it provides the analytics and technical subjects as well as management courses…..and being able to study it in Australia, was an added bonus.

“Adelaide, where the CMU’s Australian campus is based, is a very progressive city”, he said.

“There’s a very strong technology-focused business culture in Adelaide with many incentives for businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs who want to embrace technology and new ideas.

“On weekends and during semester breaks, it easy to travel to other parts of Australia to places like Melbourne, Sydney and the outback.

“Adelaide is a beautiful city, safe and easy to navigate. I live just 10 minutes from the campus in the Central Business District”, said Aman.

When Aman graduates, he plans to look at options to stay and work in Australia. At the conclusion of his 21 month degree, he will be eligible to apply a the 2-year post study work visa.

CMU graduates work for some of the top employers and organisations in Australia, the US and internationally upon graduation often seeking new careers or advancing in their current organisations in more senior positions.

Some of these organisations include - Microsoft, Google, Amazon, KPMG, Facebook, IBM, PwC, LinkedIn, Fujitsu, South Australian Government, Deloitte, eBay, Boeing and General Motors to name a few.
