CMU Australia masters student, Donna Safiera has landed a plum job in Adelaide where she’ll play a leading role in taking the company in a new direction.

Donna, who graduated in August 2019, has joined Adelaide-based Core Energy and Resources as the Integrated Systems Manager responsible for driving the ongoing development of their exciting new energy intelligence and predictive analytics platform.

Core Energy and Resources is a leading advisory firm specializing in the energy and resources sector with clients throughout Australia. In 2015 the company diversified and launched a data-base driven analytics product bringing together industry knowledge with leading edge technology.

“We like to bring smart, technology savvy young people, like the CMU-A students, on board to support the old guard who’ve worked at the coal-face and understand the intricacies of the industry, said Core Energy founder and Managing Director Paul Taliangis.

Donna’s background was particularly attractive to Core as she is technically very strong, and understands the business proposition, something we know is reinforced by the teaching at Carnegie Mellon University.

“It’s rare to see both skillsets in one person and we are impressed that Donna can visualize what Core wants to do with data and analytics, and the opportunity this presents for our industry, he said.

Core Energy and Resources anticipates that in time Donna will head up the push to bring more machine learning and AI capability to Energyview.

Energyview uses analytics, machine learning and AI to provide intelligence on the energy and resources value chain. Using 20 years of industry data, the system constructs views of the future and scenarios of what the energy and resources future might look like across industry as well as for individual clients.

The global energy and resources sector highly dynamic with regulators, governments, market operators and corporates currently relying on expensive internal processes to deliver market intelligence to inform major investment decisions, policy development and transactional support.

Energyview will deliver real-time market intelligence and Donna will play a central role in managing and refining the system, coordinating, quality control of diverse data feeds, writing code to support the system and ensuring efficient user interface.

Donna graduated in August 2019 from Carnegie Mellon University Australia with a Master of Science in Information Technology – Business Intelligence and Data Analytics. Her undergraduate degree was in Economics from University of Indonesia.
