“We are drowning in data, but knowledge poor, with many in senior management roles overwhelmed by the hype that surrounds data science,” warned Carnegie Mellon University teaching Professor Murli Viswanathan.
“Certainly, data science is a powerful business enabler, but we need to be realistic about what this emerging field can deliver.”
Professor Murli Viswanathan will be guest speaker at the ‘Exploring the world of data science’ seminar being hosted by Adelaide-based Data-to-Decision CRC for its partners in Canberra on Thursday 24 January 2019.
Over 30 invited executives from industry, government departments and academia will hear how to make sense of the deluge of data.
He will give an overview of the state of the art and focus on how and why it’s important for industry and government to invest in data science.
“There are definitely significant opportunities to be gained from data science, but we need to be diligent and tread carefully.
Professor Viswanathan will outline some of the emerging data science tools and techniques, and present some future pointers for attendees.
