Ms. Joyce Gatchalian holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Master of Science in Information Technology from the De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines.
She has also complete the professional license in both the Philippines and the United States, passing the Philippe Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Board and the United States CPA certificate examinations.
Joyce is interested in how technology can benefit business, in particular understanding the relationship between accounting and the corresponding flow of information with the use of innovative technology.
For Joyce, technology means that management can have access to timely and accurate information at their fingertips in seconds. Her vison is to develop information systems to enhance business’ accounting operations and contribute to the improvement of operating efficiencies.
After graduating, Joyce worked for Ernst & Young and the Music Museum Group and lectures in accounting at the Ateneo de Manila University.
Joyce believes that in order to flourish, one should continue to improve and keep up with new technologies. She has a special interest in helping small family-run businesses benefit from technology creating software which address complex accounting information systems accessible for small business operators.
She is concerned that over 80 per cent of small businesses do not have any accounting systems, are not doing any business analytics or even preparing of basic financial statements.
As someone who understands the importance and value of good business systems using technology, Joyce plans to return to Ateneo de Manila University to teach and share what she learns at CMU with the students to help families running small business and thus the whole Filipino economy.
